Ray grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and completed his undergraduate work in Secondary Education/Biology, as well as completing an internship in Sports Medicine from California University of Pennsylvania. He additionally completed a Masters in Public Health from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and a Masters of Physician Assistant Practice from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago, IL.

Ray is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and licensed by the California Board of Medicine. He is a fellow member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the California Academy of Physician Assistants. Prior to joining the San Diego Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center team, Ray worked in Pediatric Orthopaedics and Scoliosis at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine for the United States Navy, and most recently total joint replacement with Hoag Orthopaedic Institute Irvine, CA.

Ray’s orthopedic interests include Sports Medicine/Arthroscopy, fracture management, and total hip and knee replacement. Ray has been published in Primary Care: A Collaborative Practice, chapter highlighting evaluation and treatment of Bursitis, and continues to be interested in Orthopaedic Research and Academics. Ray is committed to a collaborative team approach to treatment, involving the patient, surgeon, and mid-level provider and ensuring patients understand their treatment options and plans through appropriate patient education.

Ray continues to serve his country as an active Navy Reservist and enjoys spending time with his family, golf, soccer, surfing and volunteering to include acting as a provider in the annual San Diego Rock n Roll marathon.
