The physicians at SDSM have been involved in team sports as well as the care of individual athletes since 1974. Their coverage has included professional, collegiate, Olympic, and High School teams. Care of the athlete consists of pre-participation physicals, game coverage, surgical and non-surgical care, as well as preventative measures. They perform state-of-the-art surgical procedures to keep athletes of all ages playing at their optimum ability. They have served on national and international committees, boards, and organizations that govern specific sports. The physicians have also served in the national governing board for National and Olympic Volleyball teams. They serve as consultants and qualified examiners for the NFL Player’s Retirement Program. They also serve as mentors for the San Diego Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Fellowship which is a nationally recognized post-graduate program for orthopaedic surgeons.
